El estado de Texas ejecutó este martes a Juan García, un pandillero condenado a muerte por asesinar en 1998 a un mexicano al que robó 8 dólares en un atraco en Houston.
García, hispano de 35 años, fue declarado muerto a las 18:26 hora local tras recibir una inyección letal en la prisión de Huntsville y no presentó ninguna apelación para intentar salvar su vida, según notificó el Departamento de Justicia Criminal de Texas.
Con la ejecución de García, la undécima del año en Texas, el estado sureño superó las 10 efectuadas en 2014. En todo el país ya han sido ejecutadas 23 personas desde que empezó el año.

El caso por el que fue condenado a muerte el hoy ejecutado se remonta al 17 de septiembre de 1998 en Houston, Texas, cuando García, acompañado de tres cómplices, asesinó durante un atraco al mexicano Hugo Solano, de 32 años.
El hombre murió de cuatro disparos en la cabeza y en el cuello, un crimen que García reconoció haber cometido, aunque alegó que fue un forcejeo y no un asesinato a sangre fría. A Solano le robaron 8 dólares después de asesinarlo.
Victor Hugo esta condenado a muerte por un crimen del que esta arrepentido y pide al Papa que lo ayude.
«Él me golpeó», dijo García desde una celda. «Lo primero que vino a mi mente es que ese hombre iba a tratar de matarme. Me agarró el arma con las dos manos y disparó.»
La víctima era un misionero cristiano de Guadalajara, México, se había trasladado con su familia a la ciudad a sólo semanas antes para que sus hijos pudieran ser educados en los EEUU.
Los tres cómplices, dos de ellos primos de García, fueron condenados a diversas penas de cárcel.
Según las autoridades, García también participó durante las semanas anteriores y posteriores al crimen de Solano en al menos otros ocho robos y dos intentos de asesinato.
Desde que el Tribunal Supremo reinstauró la pena capital en 1976, Texas ha ejecutado a 529 presos, casi el 40 % de los 1,417 muertos en todo el país.
Antes de que termine el año, Texas tiene previsto ejecutar a otros tres reos.
