Alguaciles federales arrestaron a 72 fugitivos con antecedentes de crímenes violentos durante una operación encubierta entre agencias locales, estatales y federales en el Sur de Arizona, informó hoy el Cuerpo de Alguaciles de Estados Unidos (US Marshal).
Durante cinco días, 18 agencias policiales participaron en la Operación Southerm Star IV, que se centró en fugitivos con órdenes de arresto pendientes por delitos violentos y relacionados con narcóticos.
De los 72 arrestos, 31 fueron en el condado Pima, 20 en el condado Cochise y 21 en el condado de Grahan.
«Quisimos enfocarnos en estos fugitivos violentos porque obviamente es más posible que reincidan en sus delitos con otras víctimas de nuestra comunidad», dijo a medios locales el alguacil federal Nate Alexander.
A diferencia de otros operativos que se centran en áreas metropolitanas, en esta ocasión los oficiales del orden, según comentaron, visitaron lugares alejados para llevar el mensaje de que donde estén los van a encontrar.
Dos de los arrestados estaban vinculados con un tiroteo en Tucson, Arizona, mientras que otro fue identificado como un individuo juzgado por el robo de un banco y que escapó de una prisión en Alabama.
Alexander, quien participó en la redada encubierta, indicó que este tipo de operativos se realizan varias veces al año para encontrar a personas que son un peligro para la comunidad.
En esta ocasión, agregó, tuvieron que realizar una investigación rápida de los fugitivos en conjunto con una investigación de inteligencia entre las agencias.
Hay más de 50 alguaciles federales en la oficina de Tucson y 30 de ellos son miembros del equipo especial de búsqueda de fugitivos. Este equipo trabaja con otras agencias del orden, incluyendo la Patrulla Fronteriza y los oficiales de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP) que controlan los puertos de entrada al país y el Departamento de Correcciones de Arizona.
